Best App Out There!,
Not long ago I downloaded the free version of EasyTether and took it for a test drive. Simply put, this app is excellent. It’s simple to install and simple to use. Adding the EasyTether driver to your PC is equally simple. Three minutes after I installed this app I was up and running. I’m using this app as my notebook’s internet connection to submit this review. I found this app at half price on the Amazon App Store today so I went ahead and paid for the full version (which allows access to the whole internet, including ‘https://’ secure URLs).
As a utility app like this should, it stays unobtrusively in the background. To use, simply plug your phone into a USB port on your notebook or PC, start the EasyTether app, select ‘USB – Enable to allow USB tethering’, and then start the PC-side driver program (I keep that program in my system tray for easy, instant access. I right click on the tray icon, select “Connect via Droid X”, and off I go!).
The one area people may have a problem with is speed. I normally use RoadRunner broadband with between 7 and 10 Mbps throughput, with bursts up to 20 Mbps. Using speedtest.net to test connection speed with EasyTether, I find that throughput speeds are very slow in comparison – averaging .46 Mbps download and .38 Mbps upload speeds over the course of three tests. (Droid X uses 3G; 4G speeds will probably be considerably faster – also, 3G signal where I live is not full-strength). In other words, at least for me, speed is about 20 times less than my wired broadband connection. When you watch Youtube videos or other high-bandwidth type streaming media, unless you put the media on “pause” until it’s fully loaded, it is a bit herky-jerky as playback is paused while more video data is buffered. It hearkens back to the days of telephone line dialup connections, in a way. However, this is not a problem for me as I was simply looking for a way to occasionally access the internet on my notebook when I am in areas where there is no WiFi signal. Of course, your experience may vary.
One word of caution. Unless you are enrolled in an unlimited data plan, keep an eye on your data usage if you use EasyTether on a regular basis. Otherwise, you may get a nasty surprise when your next cell-phone bill arrives.
In summary, this is quite simply the best app I have found to date for my Droid X. No muss, no fuss, and it does exactly what it says. Even at full price, this is a bargain for people who are looking for this kind of functionality.

|Just Works,
I’ve been using EasyTether for over a year now. Even after 2.1 come out which allowed you to tether, because with Verizon you have pay a monthly fee to use the built in tethering.
For those who say you’re stupid to use this because you can just root your phone… that might be fine for you, but some of us don’t want to recommend to a familyfriend who might not be that tech savvy that they root their phone simply to be able to tether. To me, $10 is worth the hassle to NOT have to root your phone.

|Essential App,
This is a simple and easy way to tether your phone. Simply amazing. Follow the provided instructions and install a small bit of software on your computer and your online in seconds. No carrier fees, and it works just as well.

|It sort of works,
Yep it’s a key ring. Yep it holds keys and other stuff. The “key-shackle” works well. So far I haven’t lost any keys. The four “CleverClips” that are included are a different story. Occasionally when I pull my keys from my pocket the things on on the “CleverClips” will go flying. If hadn’t noticed them hitting the pavement they would’ve been lost. So the “CleverClips” are almost worthless, in my opinion. Overall, not worth the money but useful.

|Just very OK,
This kit consists of a nice split-ring, 4 hooks and a horseshoe-shaped key holder.
Upon first inspection, I wan’t impressed with the horseshoe thing. It feels a little too lightweight and the keys are held in place by a flat head screw (which is conveniently not shown in the picture). Since this would be where house keys go, and screws do come loose, I don’t trust this piece enough as I’d like to.
The hooks appear sturdy enough but I found my EDC 4Sevens Mini 123 R5 Edition unhooked in my pocket after only a few days of use. This is not acceptable!
To sum it up, both the house-key holder and the hooks are primed for failure. This would be fine for keys that you don’t carry very often but not “the keys”.

|Usability and durability exceeds my expectations,
I read some lukewarm reviews on this before I bought it but I have too many keys that I take off and put back on regularly so I was willing to try anything. My experience is that it has been exactly what I needed.
What I like:
I have had 0 (ZERO) hardware failures in 6 months even while I take keys off and on at least three times a day and 5-6 days a week. I tried a ball bearing latch/release key ring and it failed in less than a month, twice with different brands.
It doesn’t look sturdy but after awhile in pocket it seems like it is. The idea of a screw holding important keys in place doesn’t appeal to me, even now. But it hasn’t come loose, yet. The looped wire (cleverclips?) at first glance don’t seem that tough but they’re surprisingly strong. The hook part is almost unbreakable.
The “cleverclips” are EXTREMELY easy to get keys off and on. It seems strange that it works so well for me, but it does. While I’ve lost keys before because I just dropped them in my pocket without latching because it was such a hassle, I haven’t lost keys and haven’t had any close calls since getting this. Because it is easy, I don’t balk at putting the keys back every time and it just seems to work as designed. I suspect that maybe one in a million times I carry this key chain a key will slip off but like I said, I haven’t had issues and it has been the best solution for me yet by far.
I’ve stretched out a couple “classic” key rings in less time than I’ve had this set. I’m really hard on my key rings and I like this one for not having to worry.
What I don’t like:
There should be more CleverClips. There just isn’t enough. I can’t dock the product based on this though since I knew how many I would be getting and only know now that I should have more.
I still don’t trust a screw holding my keys in place. It moves around when I walk and that seems like it will eventually loosen it all. It hasn’t yet, though.
